The bells of the cows become quieter, the landscape rougher, with every step we climb higher. Rugged and rustic is the landscape at the Laiets, dominated by the Piz Ela.

Description
Along the mountain stream Ragn d'Err the path leads out of the valley. At P. 2026 we turn towards the Pass d'Ela, the water-rich Ragn da Cotschna. At the back of the basin we are in front of the steep step that separates us from the beautiful laymen hidden at the foot of Piz Ela. The path now winds up in tight bends. The soil is barren. But if you're not completely out of breath, you'll discover the furry edelweiss – the queen of alpine flowers. After a good 360 meters of altitude, the lakes are finally here. Diving into the Lai Mort is a must – at least with your feet. In the scree between the lakes, the hiking trail is not very pronounced. White-red-white markings help not to lose orientation. Before the third mountain, in the hollow between Pizza Grossa and Cotschen, the path leads far out to the Pass d'Ela. The eye can hardly get enough of it: At its feet, the long-spurred violet blooms in the bright white limestone or yellow dolomite rock.
