Segantini 17: Skizze Fassadenneugestaltung Kirche Nossadonna

«Sketch drawn by the painter Segantini for the renovation of our Lady's Church in Savognin in the winter of 1889.C. Peterelli.» This handwritten note can be found on the sketch for the redesign of the façade of the church of Nossadonna. The design was never realized. There are assumptions about the reasons. It is likely that the municipality of Savognin did not have enough money to implement the elaborate renovation.

Church of Nossadonna

St. Mary's Church was built in 1641 after a devastating plague in honor of the Virgin Mary. Every inch of the church is painted, and there are especially many pictures of Mary to discover.

Segantini's Faith

Segantini was considered a stranger to the church and did not go to Mass. From various diary entries and correspondence conversations, however, one can see a relationship with God:
"I never sought a God outside of myself, for I was convinced that God was in us, that each of us possessed or could obtain a particle of it through beautiful, good and noble works; that each of us is a part of God, as well as an atom and a part of the universe." From the diary of Giovanni Segantini.
