In the footsteps of the Romans

Coins, Roman shoe nails and weapon parts of the Roman military were discovered. Of particular interest were slingshot leads with stamps of the 3rd, 10th and 12th legions. Presumably, these legionnaires were sent from the east to the west of the empire to be used in the Alpine campaign of 15 BC. At that time, the Septimer Pass was an important supply route from Italy across the Alps for the Roman army. In the summer months, the camp, which offered space for a detachment of about 200 men, was used to secure and maintain the pass.
